My Boyfriend’s 19-Year-Old Tricked Me, a Strict Vegan, Into Eating Beef Stew. I Packed Her Bags and Evicted Her Immediately.
We all know that a person’s home is their castle, and when you are a guest—or even a long-term resident—you should respect the rules of the house. It’s a simple matter of courtesy that keeps the peace and shows you value the person who opened their doors to you.
However, one woman recently took to the internet to share a story that proves not everyone abides by this simple rule, and it has sparked a fiery debate about where house rules end and personal freedom begins.
The Incident
A woman who has been a strict vegan for over 12 years found herself at her wit’s end. For two years, her boyfriend and his now 19-year-old daughter, Amy, have been living with her in her home. From the beginning, the arrangement was tense.
The homeowner described Amy as having a “rude and snide” attitude, constantly flouting house rules. These weren’t small infractions; Amy would smoke in her room despite being asked not to and would sneak meat into the house, a direct violation of the homeowner’s “no meat” policy.
The tension finally boiled over in a truly shocking way. The woman explained that Amy and her friends decided to play a cruel prank. They secretly replaced all of the vegan stock cubes in the pantry with beef-based ones. Unaware, the homeowner cooked a stew for herself.
After she had finished eating, Amy confronted her with the ultimate insult. She “pulls out an empty beef stock pack & laughs in my face asking if I liked the taste of cows and she guesses I’m just a regular murder now and can chill out.”

Absolutely stunned and deeply hurt by this violation, the woman waited for Amy to leave the house, packed up all of her belongings, and sent her a text message informing her that she was evicted.
The Internet Reacts
While the homeowner may have expected a flood of sympathy, the online reaction was far more complicated. The internet quickly sorted itself into a few distinct camps, each with a strong opinion on who was truly in the wrong.
The first group, the “Absolutely Not” crowd, was appalled on the homeowner’s behalf, agreeing that the daughter’s actions were completely out of line. Tampering with someone’s food, for any reason, is a serious offense. One commenter noted, “Stepdaughter crossed a line in replacing food,” while another pointed out the potential danger, saying she “needs to know how serious it could’ve been so she doesn’t pull this prank on someone who will have a severe and potentially life threatening reaction.” For this camp, the prank was the final straw in a long line of disrespectful behaviors that warranted the eviction.
However, a much larger group played “Devil’s Advocate,” pointing the finger squarely back at the homeowner. Many felt her attitude was cold and unwelcoming from the start, seizing on her choice of words. Referring to the 19-year-old’s room as “the room I let her sleep in” after two years of residency struck a nerve. “One can clearly see that OP has no respect for her from the beginning,” one person wrote.
Another added, “I actually felt the coldness while reading that sentence.” Many argued that forcing a teenager (Amy was 17 when she moved in) to adhere to a strict vegan diet was unreasonable and controlling. As one person put it, “How do you expect someone to respect your diet choices when you refuse to respect theirs?”

Finally, a third camp emerged, arguing that the true blame lies with the girl’s father. They felt he failed both his daughter and his girlfriend by moving his child into such a restrictive environment without properly managing the situation. “ESH—and most of all, Dad,” a commenter declared. “He knew you were vegan and they weren’t. He can choose for himself but she was 17–inappropriate IMHO for forcing that on daughter.” This group saw a man who refused to parent his child or stand up for his partner, creating a toxic environment where this conflict was bound to explode.
The Etiquette Verdict
Let’s be perfectly clear: tampering with a person’s food is never acceptable. It is a malicious and deeply personal violation of trust, and under no circumstances is it a harmless prank. The daughter’s behavior was immature and cruel.
That being said, the homeowner is not without fault. When you ask someone to make a home with you, you must be prepared to compromise. Imposing a strict dietary lifestyle on a teenager who had no choice in the living arrangement was a recipe for resentment. The cold, dismissive language and the impersonal eviction-by-text show a lack of grace from the adult in the situation.

Your Thoughts
This is a complicated situation where bad behavior seemed to beget more bad behavior. But who do you think is more at fault? Was the homeowner justified in evicting her boyfriend’s daughter, or did her own rigid rules create the conflict?
