I Let a Rude Vegan Customer Walk Out With My Meat Order Instead of Her Tofu Lo Mein After She Tried To Cut in Front of Me

We’re all taught that patience is a virtue and that we should always take the high road. But if we’re being honest with ourselves, there’s a small part of us that feels a spark of joy when someone truly rude gets exactly what they deserve. It’s that little moment of cosmic justice that makes you think, “Well, look at that.”

Recently, one man took to the internet to share a story about how he handled a situation when a particularly unpleasant person pushed him a bit too far. And let me tell you, it’s a masterclass in quiet, karmic revenge that many of us can secretly appreciate.

The Offense

The story begins at a local Asian fusion restaurant, where the man was waiting patiently in line to place a takeout order. Suddenly, a woman and her friend swept in, loudly complaining about everything. The woman was apparently “appalled that she was even in this restaurant,” griping that the food couldn’t truly be considered vegan since the establishment also served meat. For ten minutes, she had nothing nice to say about anyone or anything.

When the person in front of our narrator finished ordering, the woman breezed right past him as if he were invisible and placed her order. He politely cleared his throat and said, “I’m sorry, I was here first.” This simple statement earned him the biggest, most “how dare you waste MY time” eye-roll he had ever seen. She stepped back without a word, and he ordered his chicken fried rice. She then ordered her tofu lo mein, and they both waited.

The Sweet Revenge

About ten minutes later, the first takeout bag was placed on the counter. The rude woman, distracted while chatting with her friend about someone they both knew, snatched the bag without even a glance or a thank you. She stormed out the door, in a hurry to continue her path of negativity elsewhere.

Our narrator had a moment of realization. He thought to himself, “Um, isn’t it likely that my order finished before yours?” He was about to speak up, to correct the mistake and get his chicken fried rice. But then, a brilliant, mischievous thought stopped him. He realized she was marching away with a meal she would absolutely, positively not want to eat.

He chose silence. When the next bag appeared two minutes later, he grabbed it, knowing it was likely the tofu lo mein. He gave the counter staff a warm thank you and made a quick exit, not wanting to give the woman a chance to return and fix her error. Back at home, he triumphantly ate the lo mein, simply picking around the tofu. He could only imagine the look on her face when she discovered her dinner was not what she expected.

The Internet Reacts

When the man shared his story, the internet erupted with applause. People were overwhelmingly on his side, and their reactions fell into a few distinct camps.

First, there was the “Standing Ovation” crowd, who were thrilled by the simple justice of it all. Interestingly, many of these cheers came from other vegetarians and vegans who were tired of the stereotype. One commenter put it perfectly: “So, thank you, angry vegan lady. The other vegans also hate you.” It was a clear message that her rudeness, not her diet, was the problem.

Next came the “Taking Notes” crowd, made up of people who have worked in customer service and know this type of person all too well. They shared their own clever ways of dealing with difficult customers. One former grocery store employee said of customers who threaten never to return, “I was always satisfied to farewell those types with a hearty ‘I’ll see you tomorrow!’ as they walked away.”

Finally, there was the camp that believed the woman got off easy. They predicted she wouldn’t learn a thing. One person wrote, “The sad thing is that I’m fairly sure she looked in the bag, saw it was wrong and blamed it all on the restaurant.” Another added that she was probably the type to “write several bad reviews and attempt to ruin their business.”

The Etiquette Verdict

Of course, the old saying goes that two wrongs don’t make a right. Proper etiquette would suggest that the polite thing to do is to point out the mistake immediately. However, I believe some situations call for a more nuanced approach. This wasn’t an act of aggression; it was a simple, quiet refusal to save someone from the consequences of their own rudeness and inattention.

He didn’t tamper with her food or cause a scene. He simply allowed her own hurried, self-important behavior to create a perfectly ironic outcome. In this case, the punishment fit the crime beautifully.

Your Thoughts

What do you think of this subtle revenge? Was it a perfectly executed lesson in manners, or should the man have taken the high road and corrected her mistake?
